Obituary of Catherine MacArthur
The family of Mary Catherine “Kay” Elizabeth Barbara (Turnbull) MacArthur, 87, of Belmont Avenue, Stellarton, NS are saddened to announce her passing on January 10, 2020 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, NS.
Born on August 15, 1932 to Eva May “Ivy” (Rankin) and Gerald “Gyp” Turnbull, Kay was a lifelong resident of Stellarton, NS.
Kay had a laugh like no one else, it would instantly put a smile on your face.
Never one to sit still, Kay was always doing something and even after retiring kept busy with her home, where she was happiest, always puttering.
She started working as a waitress in her teens, back when she “had to take the order then make it”. It was while being a waitress that Kay met the love of her life James “Jim” Edward MacArthur. Married in 1952, they spent 54 wonderful years together until Jim passed away January 11, 2007, although he was gone physically he was never far in thought.
Once married, Kay started her own hair dressing business out of her home on the front street of Stellarton.
Later she worked at Woolco before retiring.
Kay leaves behind her granddaughter Malyssa Rose Mills, New Glasgow, NS, brother Gerald (Gloria) Turnbull, Stellarton, NS, sister Leanore “Lea” (Tom) Russell, Halifax, NS, sisters-in-law Joyce Neuman, Halifax, NS Jean MacArthur, Pictou, NS, special and dear neighbours Jean & Wendell Day, who Kay thought of as family, as well as nieces and nephews: Lisa (Ross) White, Gerald Turnbull (Shannon Mackenna), Tom (Deanna) Russell, Gary (Christine) Russell, Michelle MacIntosh, Joseph MacIntosh, David MacIntosh, John MacLean, Robert “Bob” (Darcy) MacArthur, Michael MacArthur, Leo MacArthur (Hayley Ormon), John MacArthur (Brenda Clarke), Donna (Greg) MacDonald, Regina MacArthur, Brenda MacArthur and many more family and friends.
