Obituary of Catherine Hazel Esson
Catherine “Kay” Hazel Esson died peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, May 27, 2020. Born in Nowlanville, NB on July 12, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Theresa (Ivory) Esson.
Kay taught school in Barnaby and St. Stephen, NB before moving to Saint John where she taught at St. John the Baptist Elementary School until her retirement. She was a longstanding member of St. Peter’s parish and had a great devotion to the Rosary. She will missed by all who loved her.
Kay is survived by her son, Timothy (Christine) McCarthy of Corunna, On; grandchildren, Timothy Jr. (Nicole) McCarthy of Sarnia, On, Karen McCarthy of Vancouver, B.C., John Paul McCarthy of Corunna, On; great-grandchildren, Olivia McCarthy, Jordon McCarthy; sister, Evelyn (the late Eldon) Hogan of Hatfield Point, NB and her dear friend Donna Sheehan of Saint John.
In addition to her parents, Kay was predeceased by her brothers, Harold Esson, Hubert Esson, Joseph Esson, Leighton (Anne) Esson and sisters, Helen (Frank) Donovan, Irene Esson, Mary (Henry) Grennan and Carmel (Donald) Gill.
The family would like to thank the staff of Dobblestyn Care Home for all the care and compassion shown to Kay during her time there. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, N.B. (634-7424). A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Most Pure Heart of Mary Church, Barnaby, NB. Interment will take place in Most Pure Heart of Mary Cemetery, Barnaby, NB.
