Catherine ‘Kay’ Giffin
Giffin, Catherine ‘Kay’ 1923-2020. Peacefully, in her own bed at Garden Terrace Nursing Home, on Wednesday, January 29th, 2020. Kay was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Ed, brother John, daughter Susan, grandson Shane and son-in-law Garnet. She is survived by her children Hazel, Mary (Lloyd) and Jim (Sheilagh). Proud Granny to Laurie, Janice, Danny, Jason, Tracey, Chris, Kelly, Shannon, Kaitie and Maeve. Great Granny and Great Great Granny to many more children.
Kay was a WW II war bride who crossed the Atlantic Ocean to meet her husband in Canada with two very young children in tow. Ed and Kay began their life together in Ottawa in a tent at Britannia Beach with fellow war veterans and their families.
Kay took pleasure in caring for children, was a talented knitter and sewer, she crocheted and enjoyed tending to her garden. She always had projects on the go for her friends or family.
Thank you to the staff at Garden Terrace Nursing Home whose dedication and care made the last six months of Kay’s life as comfortable as possible. Thanks also to the staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital emergency department and C-4 wing for the quality care they provided Kay. A very special thank you to Dr. Walter Potoczny for the over thirty years of care he gave Kay.
A private family ‘Celebration of Life’ will be held in the spring when the flowers are in bloom. Donations in Kay’s memory can be made to The War Amps.
