Carole Ann Cushing was the only child of James Leonard and Kathleen Andrews. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Francis Gerard Cushing, her children: Kelly (Dave) Wawrychuk, Michael (Lynn) Cushing, Maureen (John) Christie and Jennifer (Maurice) Cushing, and her grandchildren: Zachary, Jordan, Ellen, Matthew, Jeremy, Jack and Tom. Carole was born in Toronto and grew up in Leaside. After marriage, she and Frank lived in various cities in Ontario and eventually settled in their retirement to Unionville, Ontario and Stouffville, Ontario. Carole had a rewarding career at Liberty Mutual for many years, managing their facilities across Canada. She was well-liked and respected by all she came into contact with. Carole loved live theatre, wine tours, hosting parties, classical music, Barry Manilow and shoes. She was a voracious reader and a master at incorporating Campbell’s soups into a variety of dishes. Her lemon graham cracker squares, hot fudge pudding cake and shortbread cookies were legendary. In addition to raising 4 children, she raised a litany of 4 legged friends, cherished among them being Minou and Bogey. Alzheimer’s slowly eroded the vivacious and fun-loving woman we knew but even though she forgot our names, she remembered we were her family and she was fiercely proud to show us off to all her fellow residents in her retirement home. Our many thanks are extended to the team members at Amica – Peel Village for their compassionate care of Carole in her final days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
