Burnley’s Obituary
Atkinson, Burnley L – age 77, Sherose Island , passed away suddenly on Thursday February 6 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born November 11, 1942 in Doctors Cove, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Avis (Nickerson) Atkinson. Burnley was most known in the community for his many years working at Wilson’s Home Hardware. He was the one everyone looked for at the store and loved by many. It wasn’t until age 75 when he finally retired. He was always a hard worker and he didn’t slow down much after retirement. He spent his days gardening, bike riding, going for walks to hunt for bottles, making sure to buy his lottery and scratch tickets and of course taking his naps in between. One of the proudest moments in his life besides becoming a husband and dad, was the day he became a Grampie. He adored his grandchildren Liam and Farrah. He loved spending time with them and watching them grow. Besides his parents he is predeceased by his brother in law, Lawrence Mahaney; and nieces, Melanie and Sherri Lynn. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Jennifer (Robbie) Nickerson, Barrington; grandchildren, Liam and Farrah; brothers, Dougie (Carol) Atkinson, Sherose Island , Richard (Dora) Atkinson , Sluice Point; brother in law and sister in laws, George (Joan) Yeaton, Ontario and Nancy Mahaney, Shelburne; he also had many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews that were also an important part of his life. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Barrington. Visitation will take place Monday February 10, 7-9 pm at H. M.
