Obituary of Bruce MacKenzie
MacKENZIE, L. Bruce
Durham
Lloyd Bruce MacKenzie -76, of Durham, formerly of Hardwood Hill, passed away November 30, 2020 at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, after a brief illness.
He was born on January 21, 1944 in Pictou to the late John William MacKenzie and Muriel Ida (MacKean) Campbell. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Yvonne; daughters, Joanne (Scott) Maston and Kimberley Raadi; sons, David (Amanda), Greg (Megan) and Scott; grandchildren, Alexandra and Iain Maston, Lauren Raadi, Julia, Keira and Logan MacKenzie, Brandon Baird, Ashlyn and Claire MacKenzie, Tyler, Nora, and John MacKenzie; brother, Alan (Maxine) MacKenzie; sister, Marilyn Clements; step-brother, Ross (Ruth) Campbell; brother-in-law, Gordon (Lorraine) Chapman; sister-in-law, Margaret (Kim) Spence; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Bruce was a farmer foremost and loved his time on the tractor making hay with his boys. Over the years he wore many hats, employed at Maritime Steel, Michelin, and as an independent trucker to name a few. A jack-of-all trades, he had a knack with machinery and a part for almost anything. He enjoyed his time in the woods whether cutting firewood or waiting for that trophy buck. Hockey was his great passion and he gained a reputation on the ice for his defenseman skills. In the last few years he was a regular at the Crushers games. His great love was his family, especially his grandchildren, who lit up his face with his signature smile. He enjoyed nothing more than to have everyone around him enjoying a good meal. A graveside service will take place Friday, December 4th at 2 PM at Bethel Presbyterian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society. Due to COVID-19 restrictions there will be no gathering after the service.
