Born in Miltown Malbay, Co. Clare, Ireland, to Helen and Patrick O’Loughlin. Brid was the eldest of 12 children, six boys and six girls.
In 1956, she moved to Sherbrooke, Quebec where she joined the Order of the Sisters of the Child Jesus. She continued her education in religious life to become a teacher. Brid moved to North Vancouver in 1959. She taught in the Catholic school system in North Vancouver, Vancouver, Chemainus and lastly at St. Pauls’ in Richmond, BC. Brid furthered her education at UBC and completed various religious education programs. While she left religious life in 1975, she maintained a close relationship with the sisters.
Brid was a dedicated and highly respected teacher. She retired from teaching in 2006.
Brid was an active member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization. Her volunteerism and care-giving was unselfish and admirable. Brid enjoyed a variety of interests: travel, including many trips to Ireland for time with her family and friends, where she was much loved by all. She was an avid reader and enjoyed live theatre, the symphony and playing bridge.
A Memorial Service is being held at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church (2028 West 7th Ave, Vancouver) on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at 11:00am. Interment will be held at the Gardens of Gethsemani at a later date.
Brid passed way peacefully at Kopernik Lodge in Vancouver, BC on January 18, 2020, where she resided since July 2018. She had a lengthy and hard-fought battle with Parkinson’s disease. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. Memorial donations may be made to: Parkinson Society British Columbia.
