Obituary
Brent Firlotte
July 11, 1942 – August 7, 2020
With broken hearts, the family of Brent Firlotte of Dalhousie Junction, announces his peaceful departure which occurred at the Campbellton Regional Hospital.
He leaves to mourn his life long friend, soul mate and loving wife of 53 years Valerie, his beloved children whom he adored and was so very proud of Paul (Cynthia Cuddihy) and Louise (Remi Lagace). The name “Daddy Brent” was given to him by his cherished granddaughter Kennedy, the name was so suited that everyone called him Daddy Brent. He also leaves behind his sisters Charin and Sandra, along with numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Brent was a 37-year employee of NB Power and a proud IBEW member who made great friends. He loved his work and never complained when working countless hours in winter storms. Twenty years into retirement, he never met a hydro truck without waving.
Brent excelled at every sport he attempted, hockey, baseball, curling, swimming, skiing and bowling. His idol was Gordie Howe.
He was a keen gardener whose drills had to be straight with never a weed out of place. He was always working beside Valerie, helping in the many flower gardens and pots.
Despite his extensive travels to many Caribbean countries and European nations, his favourite place was his cozy camp. Brent loved snowmobiling and spending time at his camp with Valerie.
He was very respectful of nature, a true woodsman. He loved all animals, especially dogs and birds. An avid bird watcher, he researched and recorded everyone he saw. He was especially fond of and amazed by hummingbirds that he eagerly awaited every spring and fed diligently.
Brent loved fishing, especially the thrill of landing a salmon and had become quite adept at fly-tying.
Playing cards was a favourite pass time, especially crib. He crafted crib boards that were works of art, regrettably he was never able to enjoy a perfect 29 hand.
A jack of all trades, he was capable in many areas. What he didn’t know, didn’t take him long to learn. The running joke in the house was if Valerie asked him for the moon, he would smile and say, “I’ll see what I can do.”
Brent made friends easily, and having him as a friend was indeed a blessing; he was faithful and loyal to the end.
Brent was a wonderfully happy, contented gentleman who taught life lessons through his actions. A life well-lived, leaving the world a better place and so many cherished memories. He enjoyed good food and quietly relished his Single Malt Scotch that he collected.
Rest in peace Daddy Brent, we love you and hold you in our hearts forever.
If so desired, donations in the memory of Brent made to the Restigouche County SPCA would be appreciated by the family.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a funeral will be announced and held at a later date.
