Blair Legere 2020

Jude “Blair” Legere
Sydney Mines
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jude “Blair” Legere on Wednesday February 5, 2020 at An Cala, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney Mines on December 28, 1938, he was the son of the late Leslie & Christine “Nixie” (MacNeil) Legere. Blair met the love of his life and best friend Ruth in Sydney Mines where they lived a full and wonderful life together for 56 years. Blair was devoted to his family, and will always be remembered as a loving husband, Dad and Grandad and having a special bond with his sister and only sibling Mary. He will be remembered as a gentle soul and a generous and humble man who loved telling stories; a real homebody that treasured living in, and exploring Cape Breton Island. After enjoying many years in his family home on Stafford Avenue, Blair spent his remaining years making great new friends in a retirement community and attending the Harborview Adult Day Program.
Blair enjoyed family camping trips and fishing with his children and grandkids. Blair was known for his many artistic talents especially drawing, calligraphy, painting and making handcrafted toys for his children and grandchildren. Blair loved tending to his beautiful garden which was admired by many. Blair enjoyed dining out in search for the best liver n’ onions or fish cakes and beans. He was a real connoisseur of mincemeat pie & ginger chocolate and marmalade.
Blair began his working career with CN railway and was later employed for 23 years at the Adult Vocational Training Center with media services/print shop department. He will be remembered by colleagues for his ability to fix anything with his Swiss army knife.
Blair is survived by his wife Ruth (Greenwell); children, Rob (Kim), Michael (Sharon) and Denise; grandchildren, Christina, Todd, Breana, MacKenzie, Maxwell & Mason and his sister, Mary Holland (Bun) & nephews Luc (Kelly) and John (Sonia) and Sister in law Elizabeth Jessome & Family. Special thanks to all our family, friends and neighbors, Northside Homemakers, Dr. Ghenea, Dr. Kelly, Dr. D’Intino, Unit 3B & An Cala staff, and all the health care professionals that supported us through this journey.
Blair will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts. In accordance with Blair’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday February 8, 2020, at 11 am, in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. A reception will follow in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, Hospice Cape Breton www.hospicecapebreton.org; An Cala Palliative Care Unit; Northside Homemakers Service Society or a charity of your choice.
