Betty Chan 2020

Obituary for
Betty Chan
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother Mrs. Betty Bick-Lui Chan on November 27, 2020 at the age of 87. She is survived by her loving children, Janet (Stephen), Donna and Michael (Nellie); six grandchildren, Douglas, Amanda, Amelia, Alysha, Alec and Anton; and four sisters, Maggie, Ruby, Alice and Fiona and many nephews and nieces. Predeceased by her parents, Mr. Li Chung-Long and Mrs. Tang Sui-Hing; and loving husband, Mr. Gordon York-Shew Chan.
Betty was born in Hong Kong and immigrated to Edmonton in 1983 with her family. Gordon and Betty started the Chan’s Math Tutoring Class and were well loved and respected by their students and parents. As a devoted Christian, Betty also attended the Edmonton Christian Community Church and enjoyed the weekly Sister fellowship.
An avid swimmer, dedicated math teacher and amazing cook specializing in mango pudding, Betty was kind and generous and enjoyed spending her pastime teaching math to her children and having dim sum with her family and friends.
She will be greatly missed by her children, beloved grandchildren, family and friends.
The family expresses enormous gratitude to the exceptional nurses and staff at Good Samaritan Southgate Care Centre for their attentiveness and compassion while caring for Betty.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all who have reached out during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Edmonton Christian Community Church, 8810 65 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 0J7.
