Betty Margaret Larkworthy Baynham Monday February 10th 2020

Betty Margaret Larkworthy, born April 24, 1923 in Exeter, Ontario, daughter of Philippa Maud (Harness) and Amos Lloyd Baynham, passed away on February 10, 2020 at Greenwood Court, Stratford.
Betty is survived by her daughter Jane and partner Rick of Stratford, and niece Patricia Rosendaal (Dirk). She was predeceased by her husband, Donald (1997), brother and sister-in-law Jack and Fyfe Larkworthy, nephew Peter Larkworthy, and great nephew Graeme Rosendaal.
Betty worked in the Traffic Department of Bell Canada until her marriage. She was actively involved in the Perth County Historical Foundation and in Beta Sigma Phi, Tau Master Chapter. She was a member of the Stratford Perth Museum and was a Charter Member of the Stratford Concert Choir.
For many years she chaired the committee responsible for conducting heritage tours for the Historical Foundation and of step-on service for Tourism Stratford. She was extremely interested in the city’s local architecture, and served on the Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee (LACAC) as well as other committees interested in retaining historical buildings and districts. Another of her interests was her collection of Depression Glass, a sample of which remains in the care of the Stratford Perth Museum.
She acted as co-editor of the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church newsletter, the SAINT, beginning in 1983, taught in the church school for over 35 years, was a member of the senior choir for many years, and was a charter member of the St. Andrew’s Good Morning Group, the International Ministries Group, the 3F Supper Club and Meaningful Adventure.
Betty was also a faithful and long-time supporter of many local organizations including the Stratford Festival, Stratford Perth Museum, Stratford Summer Music, United Way Perth-Huron and the Stratford Perth Community Foundation.
Although never expecting formal recognition for her volunteer efforts, Betty was made a Life Member of the Stratford Perth Museum (1995) and was one of three recipients of the inaugural James Anderson Heritage Award (2007).
We would like to express our utmost gratitude to the staff of Greenwood Court and Anne Hathaway Retirement Residence for their care and understanding during Betty’s transition from independent to supported living. We would also like to thank Betty’s many friends in the community who asked about her often. And to long-time family friends Kathy and Don Currie, who visited Betty regularly during her stay at Greenwood Court, words simply cannot express our appreciation.
In keeping with Betty’s wishes there will be no funeral home visitation or service. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be held at a later date at Avondale Cemetery (Stratford).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (Stratford, ON), the Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth (directly at www.rotaryhospice.ca) or a charity of one’s choice through Rutherford Cremation and Funeral Services, 804 Ontario Street (Unit C-11), Stratford, ON, N5A 3K1, 519-271-5062, rutherford@jarfh.com.
