Betty Berry
After a long, active and fulfilling
life Betty (Mary Elizabeth) Berry died peacefully on July 14, 2020 in
her 99th year. Born on April 6, 1922, Betty was born in
Sunny Brae and lived there most of her life. She was the
daughter of the late William Webb Price and Hazel Mae Price (nee
Blakney).
Betty was a committed and a passionate
church-goer and a member of Sunny Brae Baptist Church for over ninety
years. She was a tireless volunteer for the church and was
well-known throughout Sunny Brae for her sunny disposition. She loved
to garden and at one time she and Raye had 3 gardens at home, the
cottage and the camp. She could often be seen pulling weeds in her
yard where she loved being outside and saying hello to everyone who
walked by. Many people referred to her as a kind angel on earth for
her desire to help others and to enjoy peaceful
relationships. While very strong in her faith, she was
accepting of other viewpoints and preferred to find points of
commonality, rather than disagreement. Her life was her
home, family and church.
For many years she spent her summers
at the Berry cottage in Robichaud Office and much of the spring and
fall at the Berry camps in Portage Vale and Forest Hill where numerous
family Thanksgiving dinners were held for over 50 years. She always
welcomed family and friends dropping by wherever she was and made
everyone feel at home.
Betty is survived by her son Ron
(Carol), daughters, Judy Gillis (Rod) and Jane Bustin
(Doug). She was the loving grandmother of Shelley, Tara,
Stephanie, Stacy, Carey, John, Alan, Tanya, James, Sarah, Laura and
Erika. She is also survived by great grandchildren Cameron,
Lily, Everly, Isla, Anna, Em, Bean, Plum, Declan, Finn, Malia, Ryland,
Malik, Harper, Owen and Jordyn. Betty was pre-deceased by
her husband Raye (2007), son Douglas (1996) and grandson David Berry
(1983). She was also pre-deceased by her brothers Ron, Bill and
Edward. She was the last surviving member of her
family.
Many thanks to the staff of McNair
Manor for their care and service during Betty’s time
there.
