Obituary
It is with the greatest sadness we announce the passing of Bert Gammage on Feb 2, 2020 at the age of 90.
Bert was born in East Dereham, England on Dec 10, 1929. He joined the Royal Airforce as a young man and fell in love with Canada after a tour of training with NATO in Winnipeg. Bert and Jean emigrated to Canada in 1960. He started working for the Hudson’s Bay company which took them to Kamloops and Kimberly where his first daughter, Paula, was born. Then onto Grande Prairie where Sandra was born. In 1968 the family moved to Fort St. John where he started with the Co-op and their youngest daughter, Amanda, was born. It was in fort St. John that he spent the remainder of his life; over 50 years.
Bert valued family and dear friends, he enjoyed children and had a soft spot for animals. He quietly donated to many charities on a regular basis. If desired, expressions of sympathy can be made to a charity, such as the local SPCA. Some of the charities Bert supported were various humane societies, St Paul’s Hospital, Covenant house and Operation Smiles.
A celebration of life is planned for early summer, 2020. Date, time and details will be announced via Facebook and updates on Bert’s obituary page of the Hamre’s website.
