While listening to the gentle voice of Nat King Cole, on August 9th at the age of 96, Bernice Mary Sebunchak started her journey to heaven. She is survived by daughters Aileen and Debra (Stan), grandchildren Brittany (Shaun), Kurtis (Kareen), great-granddaughter Thora, and life-long childhood friend Ann Fulton. She was predeceased by her parents Marko and Ksenia (Sophie) Grymaluk, siblings Peter, Olga, Annie and Mary, and her husband of 64 years, Adolph.
Bernice started her career as a typist for Great West Life until she left the workforce in 1955 to be a full-time mother. She believed raising her two daughters was her greatest accomplishment.
Bernice had a passion for gardening, adored spending time with her dogs, and relished the sun and sand at their Grand Beach cottage. She enjoyed attending live theatre and the WSO, listening to music like “Shantytown”, and actively participated in baseball, bowling, and shopping.
Bernice loved travelling, visiting Las Vegas and San Francisco with Adolph, London with Debra, New York and the Maritimes with Ann, and an unforgettable trip to Hawaii with her children and grandchildren.
The family thanks the staff at Park Manor PCH for their care and support of Bernice during this difficult time. A private graveside service is planned.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the St Boniface Hospital Research Foundation (Adolph & Bernice Sebunchak Endowment Fund supporting cardiac and Alzheimer research) are appreciated.
