Bernice Mildred Eastman nee Bucknam of Arkona passed peacefully from this life into the loving arms of her Lord on April 8th, 2020, in her 95th year at North Lambton Lodge.
Bernice is predeceased by husband Walter Earl Eastman (2004). Together Walter and Bernice raised their family of Allen, Don (Olive), predeceased twin brother Dave (2006), daughter-in-law Deborah, and Jim (Maggie). Bernice leaves a legacy in her family including her grandchildren, Tammi (Paulo), Vanessa (Miguel), Chelsea (Josh), Mitchell (Jen), Megan (Matt), Melissa (James), Anthony, Jonathan (Jen), Lisa, Charissa (Luke), Stephen (Tori), and great-grandchildren, Caleb, Olivia, Chloe, Elianna, Ivy, Noah, Sullivan, Nora, and Bennett, Micah, Ruth. We can only imagine the smile as Bernice is reunited with her predeceased grandchildren, Nicholas (1982), Jade (2002), Davie (2006), her parents and only sister Ruth Shouldice (1983).
Bernice was known for her love in faith, family and friends, a bright smile on a woman who found joy in simple pleasures. When asked her favourite colour, she would quickly respond: “all the colours as long as they are pink.” Bernice loved having friends and neighbours over, setting up a board game, dominoes, or a challenging game of crokinole. She loved sharing jokes and poems from her well known “joke box” or proudly showing off her letters from the Queen herself, whom Bernice shared a birthday with and would send a card to every year. Spending much of her time, Bernice could be found reading her Bible and praying for family and friends. Encouraging others, going for walks and visiting were all part of Bernice’s daily life, events that many of us took for granted until recently, but always cherished moments for Bernice. At the age of 9, Bernice learned how to knit, 80 years, row upon row, knit and purl, resulting in baby clothes, afghans, mitts, tuques and more. Donating hundreds of hat and mitt sets that were then sent to various charities. Bernice loved and was loved richly.
Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
The family would like to sincerely thank North Lambton Lodge for the care and compassion given to Bernice during her time there. Arrangements are entrusted to Gilpin Funeral Chapel, 123 King Street East in Forest. 519-786-4964. A private family service will take place on Saturday, April 11 at the Arkona Cemetery with Pastor Jonathan Ferrier and Pastor Steven Pike officiating. A public memorial planned at a later date. Please leave a memory or condolence online for the family at www.GilpinFuneralChapel.com
