Bernice Isabel Bond 19362020

Bernice Isabel Bond
1936-2020
Bond, Bernice Isabel, age 84 of Antigonish.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our
dear family member on Thursday, June 25th, 2020. Bernice was born into
a family of 17 children on May 12, 1936 to the late Clarence and
Minnie (Delaney) Bond, of Halfway Cove, Guysborough
County.
Bernice is survived by brothers, Gerald (Claire), Antigonish;
Percy (Joy), Mulgrave; Gordon (Myrtle), Frankville; Garfield and
Lloyd, Halfway Cove; sisters, Verna Ritcey, Eastern Passage; Rita
Hansen, Dartmouth; Eileen (Pete) Woolridge, Halifax; and many nieces
and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Garland, Wesley, Aubrey,
Donald, and John “Arnie”; sisters, Helen, Marguerite, and
Marie.
Bernice moved to Antigonish at the age of 16 and began her
career in the hospitality industry as a waitress at the Lighthouse
Restaurant in Lower South River and stayed on over the decades as it
became Gentleman Jim’s and then Mother Webbs. She
finished off her forty-year career at Chuggles. Bernice was known for
her warm smile and her wonderful apple pie that she took great pride
in baking and serving her customers and her family.
For many of her nieces and nephews, she will be fondly
remembered as “the cool aunt with the convertible”. For
years her prized possession was a dark green Chevy Impala convertible
which she always made available for trips to the beach in the summer
at Halfway Cove.
After suffering a stroke in 2016, Bernice’s mobility was
limited to a wheelchair and a nursing facility. As a testament to her
strength and courage she was never heard complaining about her health
but rather felt very fortunate that she wasn’t worse off than she was.
We will miss your sarcastic wit and loving smile.
Bernice’s family would like to thank the staff of the R.K
MacDonald nursing facility for their excellent care and for providing
a home and additional family these last 3 1/2 years.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held
Tuesday from 6 to 9pm in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street,
Antigonish, and all visitors will be expected to adhere to the
province’s social distancing protocols. A private family
funeral will be held on Wednesday at 11:00am, and the public is
invited to view the service with a link provided on the funeral home
website.
Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke
