Bernard “Bernie” Lapointe
1943-2020
It is with profound sadness that the family of Bernard
“Bernie” Lapointe announce his passing on May 6th,
2020 at the DECH in Fredericton, after a brief illness. Born February
21st, 1943 in Kenogami, in the Saguenay Region of Quebec, Bernie was
the son of Alberta (Tremblay) and Albert Lapointe.
In addition to his parents, Bernie was predeceased by his
brother Marcel (Helene), Gilles (Cecile), Julienne (Annette), niece
Nancy, and nephew Serge, as well as brother-in-law Martin Alward, and
son-in-law Scott Martel.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn, son Michael (Joanne) of
PEI, loving daughters Johanne of Spokane, WA, Janine (Greg Chapman) of
Fredericton, NB, Amy Elliot (Gary) of Elmira, ON, Jane Urquart (Tony)
of Charters Settlement, NB, Helen Morgan (Jason) of Brown’s
Flats, NB, special daughter Tammy Kingston (Louis) of Victoria, BC,
sister Collette Groulx (late Denis) of Montreal, PQ, and brother
Daniel of Montreal, PQ
Also surviving him, is his mother-in-law, Barbara Alward,
sister and brother-in-law; Maxine and Glen Ackerson, as well as sister
in law Lin Alward.
He also leaves many adored grandchildren, Cassandra and
Isabella Lapointe of PEI, Casey Wade (Alex) and Erin Wade (DJ) OF San
Francisco, Emily and Ethan Wade of Spokane, WA, Ryan and Natalie
Elliot of Elmira, ON, Caleb and Luke Urquhart of Charters Settlement,
Alex (Haley) and Gabriel Kingston, and four precious chosen
granddaughters he had yet to meet, Letitia, Christina, Katrina, and
Sabrina Kingston, all of Victoria, BC.
After a short career in the Military, Bernie enjoyed a long,
fulfilling career in surveying with the Structures Branch of the NB
Dept of Transportation from which he retired in 2002.
Bernie also loved, and was loved, by many nieces and nephews,
in NB, AL, BC, PQ, NZ.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Sean Dolan and all the
oncology staff at the Saint John Regional Hospital, as well as the
wonderful nurses of the Oncology Dept and 4NW at the DECH for their
compassion and care during this difficult time. A special thank you to
Dr. Savita Karol, Dr. Bea Sainz, and Dr. Ashla Pond.
Thank you to EMH for their unfailing care and
kindness.
Arrangements are entrusted to McAdam’s Funeral
Home. Due to the current health crisis, no visitation or funeral
service will be held at this time. For those who wish, donations in
Bernie’s memory may be made to Wounded Warriors Canada, or
the Canadian Cancer Society.
Mactaquac Golf Club will be missing one very devoted golfer
this season. Play on guys!

Very sore to hear about Bernie passing, he will be missed, especially in the early morning at Mactaquac. R.I.P.
Bernie & I trained as Surveyors together in the Soldier Apprentice Battery in 1960-61 and I last saw him in Camp Gagetown in 1962. I will inform our comrades of his passing. Gone but not forgotten Bernie. My condolences to his family
