It is with great sadness that the family of Benjamin Joseph Wheeler, 85, of Lunenburg, announces his passing on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.
Born in Ship Cove, NL, he was a son of the late Herbert and Marguerite (Campbell) Wheeler.
Ben grew up in Ship Cove, NL, later moving to Nova Scotia where he spent his working career as a fisherman in Lunenburg, serving as ship’s cook. He loved to cook and many of his shipmates will attest that he made the best bread, something he continued to do until very recently. He also enjoyed the new found freedom of his motorized scooter and time spent with his friend Hubert Fry. He was very proud of his family and most enjoyed seeing his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ben is survived by his wife, Joanne; daughter, Denise (Joe) Grandy, Clyde River; son, Darren (Heather) Perham, Lunenburg; grandchildren, Jarret, Chelsea; great-grandchildren, Broden, Nevaeh, Avery, Emilee; sister, Mame, NL, as well as many nieces and nephews,
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Gerry, Murdock, Hubert, Raymond, William, Mike; sisters, Mildred and Annie.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg and from where a private family service will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2020. Interment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to St. Norberts Roman Catholic Church, Lunenburg, would be appreciated by family.
