Benjamin Jonathan Laekas
December 24, 1976 – November 6, 2020
Ben passed away peacefully with his brothers, fathers, mothers, cousins, and amazing nurses from the West Island Palliative Care standing by his side, at the age of 43. With the support of his family he courageously battled cancer for 5 years.
Ben was born and raised in Montreal by parents, Barbara Bourke, Peter Laekas, Rod Armstrong, and Nancy McGuire, along with his brothers Scott (Melissa), Jamie (Kelly), and Timmy (Judith), and other “brothers” Matt (Joelle), Dan, and David.
Ben’s legacy will be kept alive in his two amazing children, Aidan (11) and Mia (8), cared for in the loving hands of their mom, Shelley Dilallo.
Above all, he committed his energy to his kids, he can be quoted as saying, “they are the reason I wake up every morning.” He spent every waking moment loving and providing for them. He was a tremendously proud father.
Ben was a son, brother, father, cousin, uncle (Kai, Aubrey, Winnie, Bianca, Elliot, Zoé), and friend, and will be missed intensely by many. We love you Ben.
The visitation will be held at Salon Roland Ménard (395, rue Grace, Lachute (Qc) J8H 1M3) on Saturday, November 14th, 2020 from 8:30 am to 11:30 am. Please note that a private ceremony for the family will be held afterwards. A safe and covid-compliant setup has been arranged by the funeral home to allow for a socially distanced receiving line. Masks are mandatory and hand sanitizer will be available. The family understands these are unique times; if you are unable or uncomfortable attending the visitation please feel free to send your sympathies however you see fit.
The family has established an education and activities fund for Aidan and Mia. This fund will help support future education and activity expenses (arts, sports, camps, etc.). Jamie Armstrong (his brother) will be setting up and managing the fund. If you would like to contribute, please send your donation to jamie.armstrong18@gmail.com via e-transfer.
A donation can also be made to the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence in memory of Ben. The family would like to express their deep gratitude for the constant love and care given by the incredible staff and volunteers.
