We mournfully announce the passing of Ernest [Ernie] Frank Baxter, 93, of Edmonton, AB. Ernie passed away peacefully on December 17, 2020 after being admitted to hospital on December 11, 2020.
Ernie, born to Leo & Myrtle Baxter, took his first breath on June 7, 1927 in his hometown of Whitecourt, AB. Ernie is predeceased by his brother Percy, and is survived by his two other siblings, Henry and Opal.
Ernie was a beloved resident of Whitecourt, AB and Mayor Rennie and Councilors Govenlock and Merrifield attended Ernie’s 90th birthday party on June 10, 2017 at the Forest Interpretive Centre in Whitecourt.
Ernie grew up hunting, fishing, being outdoors, and spending many hours behind a team of horses. He was committed to his farm, animals, community, faith, and family and his spirit touched the lives of so many.
In 1986 he wed Katherine Adell [Adell] Gibson. They enjoyed travelling the world together and lived happily on their farm in Whitecourt; enjoying wagon rides, raising their many animals, and celebrating special occasions, all with their adoring family.
Ernie & Adell, in service to God, spent many mission trips building orphanages helping the under-privileged and sponsored numerous compassion care kids over the years. They felt very blessed in their lives and spent time blessing others.
Ernie cherished spending time with his loved ones, playing games, camping, and teaching his grandchildren and great grandchildren to fish. He will be missed by his devoted wife (Adell), her children – Ruth (Ed) Vogel of Elk Point, Keith (Mary) Gibson of Westlock, Gail (Dan) Wiebe of Ardrossan, Gary Gibson of Water Valley, Brenda Gibson (Hardy Lawrence) of Camrose, Gordon (Marlene) Gibson of Whitecourt, Duane Keyawasew of Edmonton – and by his admiring 20 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.
Grandpa B spent most of his childhood years behind a team of horses. To honor his memory, Grandpa B will be shepherded to his final resting place in the Whitecourt cemetery by horse drawn wagon. On Tuesday, December 22nd, family and friends are welcome to view Ernie’s final ride from the comfort of their vehicles (only) and reflect on the positive impact he has had on each of our lives. Starting at 1:00 PM, the processional will begin at 41st Ave, then proceed south along 35th St to the cemetery. In accordance with current health restrictions, a graveside ceremony will be attended by a minimal number of family. A memorial will be planned for a later date.
