Barry’s Obituary
NEW GLASGOW – Hugh Barry MacDougall, 75, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of New Glasgow and Lively, Ont., passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2020 in the Villa, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Hugh M. and Dorothy May “Myrtle” (Fraser) MacDougall. Barry was a miner with Inco, Sudbury, Ont., for over 33 years, moving back to New Glasgow in 2005. In earlier years, he was played hockey with St. John’s Academy and the New Glasgow High School team. Barry is a member of the Pictou County Sports Hall of Fame. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Lively Fire Department for 20 years. Barry enjoyed a good game of Pool, fishing, snowmobiling, old timer hockey and spending time with his family. Throughout his life, Barry possessed the dedication, determination and boundless energy to succeed at everything he did. He leaves a good example for his family to follow.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Darlene; daughter, Melanie MacDougall, Lively; sons, Tony (Bev), New Glasgow; Ian, Manly Beach, Australia; Michael (Lorana), Kitchener, Ont.; grandchildren, Brayden and Anna; sisters, Gail MacDougall, Halifax; Debbie Austin, New Glasgow; brother, Scott (Gaile), New Glasgow; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Cheryl Kyle.
A public graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5th in Holy Cross Cemetery, High Street, New Glasgow with Father Thomas MacNeil presiding.
