Obituary
Barry Archie Black
Barry passed away on November 23rd, 2019 at the Treherne Personal Care Home while talking to his sister Darlene on the phone.
Barry was born on January 15th, 1945 at Virden, Manitoba to Christena and George Black. In the fall of 1945 they moved from Two Creeks to take over the McQuarrie farm in Dry River. Barry had one sister Darlene. Barry attended a one room school house at Dry River for 8 years and then went to Pilot Mound for High School. He liked nothing better than driving. He drove tractors and trucks on the farm at a very young age. He was hauling grain for a neighbour when he was 8 years old (hard to believe). I think one of his happiest days was when he turned 16 and got his driver’s license. I’m sure many people remember Barry driving around Pilot Mound on Saturday nights in his 1961 green Rambler. Barry had a number of jobs and even owned his own semi trailer and hauled grain for different companies to the States.
Barry married Marilyn Wanless in 1972 and they farmed at Belmont, MB. Marilyn was a RN nurse at Baldur Hospital for a number of years but sadly passed away with a brain tumour in 1978. Barry enjoyed farming and had horses and cattle, as well. He enjoyed watching and competing in truck pulls around Manitoba. He even won some trophies in some of the competitions. Barry also had a Kawasaki motorcycle which brought him a lot of enjoyment. After he sold his farm, Barry and Linda lived in a number of places, including Pilot Mound, Brandon and Holland. Barry then lived in Glenboro for 9 years before having to move to the Personal Care Home in Treherne due to poor health.
Barry was predeceased by his wife Marilyn and his parents George and Christena Black. Left to mourn his passing are his sister Darlene (Bryan) Bowden, their children Marny (Keith) Dyck, Nathan and Konrad and Trevor (Shannon) Bowden, Karissa and Declan.
A graveside memorial service will be held at Belmont cemetery with immediate family later this spring.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Unit 3-2430 Victoria Avenue, Brandon, Manitoba R7B 0M5.
