Barb Rowe, 76, of Edmonton, passed away on October 6, 2020, after a long fight with cancer and the complications arising from a cardiac arrest several years ago.
Barb was born to parents, Margery Edna Borain and Thomas Earnest Anthony in Johannesburg, South Africa on April 13, 1944. She graduated top of her nursing class in 1964 before beginning a lifetime of adventure in different locations around the world. After living in Philadelphia, New York City, and Montreal, she moved west and spent the last 40+ years of her life in Spruce Grove and Edmonton. She was proud to be Canadian and her favourite getaways were to her waterfront trailer at Hastings Lake and the hot springs at Miette.
Barb was known by all as a courageous and strong woman with a quirky sense of humour who made those around her laugh. She was unconventional, forged her own path, and got a kick out of breaking rules along the way. She was a lifelong animal lover who cared deeply for her cats.
She is survived by her children: Jennifer, Dan (Tracy), Jessie, and Katrina (Stephen); and her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly: Zoe, Mason, Lucas, Evan, Tamre, Kyla, Kaede, Avianna, and Hendrik. She is also survived by several amazing friends who were like family to her (Donna, Gaye, and Shirley).
The family wish to thank the staff at South Terrace Continuing Care Centre for their care and attention over the last seven years.
In light of the current health crisis, the family has to accept that it is currently unable to give Barb the send-off that she deserves. Instead, the family will hold a small service for immediate family and close friends to say goodbye.
