Barbara Jeannette (Storey) West
passed away at the Moncton Hospital on December 27,
2020.
Born in Springhill, Nova Scotia,
on April 15 1938, Barbara was the only child of Donald and Jennie
(Thompson) Storey. Educated in Springhill and at the St. Charles
Business College in Amherst, NS, Barbara worked for business firms in
Moncton. Barbara met Winston West at a wedding in June 1958 and they
married at Wesley Memorial United Church (Moncton) on June 4 1960. The
couple lived in Montreal for a year before returning to Moncton. In
1966 they moved to a new house on Danforth Street (near Birchmount
School), where they lived until 2014. Barbara graduated from the New
Brunswick Community College Teacher Training program in 1973. She was
a Business Education teacher and taught for 20 years at Harrison
Trimble High School, retiring in 1995. Barbara was a member of
Mountain View United Church and a Life Member of the United Church
Women.
Barbara is survived by her
devoted husband of 60 years, Winston, and by her daughter Patricia
West (Ramsay Anderson) of Fredericton, and her son Kevin West (Joanne
Daykin) of Dunrobin, Ontario. Barbara will also be missed by her two
brothers-in-law, Charles West of Quispamsis and Leonard West of Saint
John, and their families. Barbara is mourned by Betty Wood, of Oxford,
Nova Scotia, the last surviving sibling of Barbara’s
parents.
The family wishes to thank Dr.
Sylvie Roberge and all the staff in orthopedics, cardiac, and
geriatrics at the Moncton Hospital. In memory of Barbara, donations to
Mountain View United Church or charity of the donor’s choice
would be appreciated. Barbara never met a cat she didn’t
love and they loved her back and with that in mind, please consider
donating to the Moncton SPCA (www.monctonspca.ca), your
local animal shelter, or cat rescue organization, such as
CARMA.
Arrangements are being handled
by Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995). Due
to pandemic restrictions, a private committal service followed by
interment at Fair Haven Cemetery will take
place.
