Barbara Ann Fisher-Townsend 19492020

Barbara Ann Fisher-Townsend
1949-2020
Barbara Ann Fisher-Townsend, Ph.D, age 70, passed away October 11,
2020 in the arms of her loving husband of forty-seven years, David.
Born in Hamilton, ON, she was the daughter of the late Marion (nee
Foster) Fisher and William (Bill) Fisher.
Barb always maintained a sunny disposition in spite of a myriad of
health challenges. Although completing her Doctorate in Sociology
comparatively late in life, Barb was able to share her knowledge and
enthusiasm for her discipline by authoring a significant number of
publications and by teaching many courses. Most recently, her great
joy was working as an Instructor for the University of New Brunswick
teaching on-line courses which she designed.
Barb’s passing has left a legacy of wonderful memories, both
personal and professional. She will be remembered fondly by her many
friends in New Brunswick and Florida. In lieu of flowers, please
consider a donation to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
She is survived by her husband David Townsend; children Gary and
Rosie; four wonderful grandchildren; a brother, Fred Fisher
(Sherrill); sisters, Mavis Fisher, Julia Fisher and Lori Underwood
(Ron); a brother-in-law Ross Townsend (Barb) and a sister-in-law,
Janet Townsend as well as many dear nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother-in-law,
John Townsend.
A Celebration of Barb’s life will be held at a future date.
