Obituary
KIRBY, Arnold Roy
It is with great sadness that the family of Arnold Roy Kirby announces his sudden passing on Monday, March 30th, 2020 at the age of 63 years. Arnold will be lovingly remembered by Karri, his wife of 19 years; his children Jason and Danielle; his granddaughter Cassidy; his sister Carolyn (Doyle) and half sister Gladys (Richard). Arnold will also be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews, Anita, Nancy (Mike), Ted (Kareena), Matthew, Darren, Candace (Ricky), and by his brother-in-law Lorne(Trudy). Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and extended family. Also dear friends and his cherished cat, Zorro. Arnold was born in Assiniboia, SK on June 21, 1956. He grew up on the family farm near Scout Lake. He attended school in Scout Lake, SK and later in Rockglen, SK. At the young age of 12, Arnold witnessed the tragic and untimely death of his younger brother Chris, who was just 7 years old. This event affected Arnold for the rest of his life causing a domino effect of issues. As a result the hardships that he and his sister Carolyn faced were among those that most people would never have to face in their lifetime. This also brought distance between Arnold and his mom. Eventually Arnold moved away from home at the age of 16. At age 22, he was married for a short time and had two children. Following this, Arnold lived with his sister Carolyn and her husband at the time, Lorne. They had many fun times together. Arnold and Lorne developed a strong friendship and became like brothers. Arnold’s sister Carolyn cherished all the good talks they shared together. Later Arnold was able to connect with his mother once again and find some healing in their relationship. Arnold lived in various places over the years such as Willow Bunch, Regina, Edmonton, Calgary, and finally, Saskatoon. In December 2000, Arnold’s life was totally changed when he met the love of his life, Karri. They married in September of 2001 and have built and enjoyed a wonderful life together. Arnold worked in the trades as a welder for 25 + years. He was a very hard worker and took great pride in his work. Over the years he worked at many jobs like construction, auto mechanic, painter, landscaper/gardener, cement finishing, kitchen helper etc. where he formed many great friendships with his colleagues. Arnold enjoyed playing cards and other games such as Scrabble. Loads of fun was had over a game of crib. He was an amazing cribbage player! He was also gifted when it came to playing the piano, he had a special touch. Arnold’s other interests were cars (his car was always immaculate), coffee with his usual group, visiting family and friends, spending time at the farm, listening to music, movies, travelling, exploring, touring museums and historical sites. He was also known to attend Saskatoon Folkfest and the Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby faithfully every year. Arnold was a great storyteller. He had the sharpest memory, he remembered dates and details from his own life as well as historical facts that no one else could recall. He never forgot a birthday. He loved reminiscing! Arnold was very active, talkative, and liked to be kept busy. There was never a dull moment when Arnold was around, he was lots of fun. He had a great sense of humour. His laugh was infectious, and his smile brightened the room. Arnold was a very friendly and outgoing person. Above all he was a devoted husband and he will be dearly missed. Arnold was predeceased by his parents Bob and Gretha; his brother Chris; his sister Marguerite; his brother-in-law Jim; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. A Celebration of Life will be held in Rockglen, SK at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Saskatoon SPCA (where Zorro was rescued from).
