Arlene M. Wilson
1928-2020
Arlene M. Wilson, formerly of Centreville,NB passed away peacefully
with family by her side on Monday, November 16th, 2020 at the Carleton
Manor in Woodstock, NB. Mom was born May 5, 1928 in Summerfield, NB.
She was the eldest daughter of Howard and Leota (Cougle) Brown. Mom
was predeceased by her first husband, Wesley, the father of her two
children; her second husband, Gerard Wilson; sister, Jean McDougall,
brother, Wilfred, grandparents and stepdaughter, Patricia Almond.
Mom graduated from Centreville High School in 1945, she was the last
surviving member of her graduating class. In September 1946, she
married Wesley Thomas. Mom raised her family, worked daily and cared
for father who later died with MS, all while studying for several
years by correspondence. In 1957, Mom attended Dalhousie University
and received her diploma as a Certified Pharmacy Clerk. Mom worked at
Stephen’s Drugs in Centreville from the age of 14 until the store
closed in 1967. In July 1968, after marrying granddad (Gerard), Mom
moved to Presque Isle, Maine and continued to work at Smith’s Drugs in
Bath, NB until 1982. After retirement Mom and Granddad then enjoyed
travelling, and she spent time making quilts, knitting and working in
her flowers. She was always there to give a helping hand, caring for
her grandchildren.
Mom is survived by her two children, Larry (Carol) Thomas and Karen
(Darrell) Simonds; one step son, Gerard Jr. (Patricia); 4
grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 3 great
great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Marie, Opal, Shirley and Colleen
(Joseph) whom she thought she would look after forever; several
nieces, nephews and extended family.
The family would like to give a very special thank you to Riverside
Court and Carleton Manor for their excellent care and attention during
Arlene’s stay with them.
Due to Covid 19 Restrictions, funeral services will be private and
held at a later date.
