Anthony Squires June 21 1948 to November 7 2020

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Anthony (Tony) Squires, retired fire Captain from the St. John’s Regional Fire Department, who passed peacefully away at home November 7, 2020 at the age of 72. He was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather. True to life and everyone around him, he touched the hearts of all. After 25 years in the fire department, he decided to continue on with his construction business. Up until his last days, he spent his time in the garage preparing for the upcoming winter season. During the summers he enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Millertown. He loved the outdoors and to all who heard his everlasting stories of fishing and hunting, they will never be forgotten. His main joy in life however was his grandchildren. The endless love he felt for them will always be remembered.
Leaving to mourn his loving wife Judy (Newman) of 52 years, son Troy (Angela), daughter Marlene (Gary), cherished grandchildren Austin (friend and buddy), Haley (his baby girl), Brielle and Dustin who will treasure his recent visit to Ontario for cancer treatment.
Predeceased by parents Eli and Francis Squires, sisters Desma Dowden, Lydia Lannom and Leifa Thorne and brothers Wendall, Melvin and Richard. Left to mourn are sisters Rosemany Drover (Wilf-deceased), Sandra Sharpe (Tom), Rosalind Davis (Dave), Patsy Lawlor (Gerald) and brothers Eli (Madeline- deceased) and Max (Shirley). Tony will be missed by a large circle of family and friends.
Special thanks to all who reached out with support and messages during this time and to the staff of St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital for their care and to his home care worker Moses.
Due to COVID restrictions, visitation will be by invitation only. A funeral service will take place from the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, November 10th at 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
“A golden heart
stopped beating
hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts
to prove to us, He only
takes the best.”
