Obituary for
Anna Youzwishen
Anna Youzwishen, of Edmonton, AB, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2020 at the age of 100 years.
Anna was born near Desjarlais, AB on October 27, 1920 to Ukrainian immigrants, Harry and Pearl Bodnisky and grew up homesteading near Hamlin. As a teenager, she helped as a domestic to local farm families and worked on crop thrashing crews.
She moved to Edmonton in the early 1940’s with daughter, Irene, and worked at the Burns meat processing plant. Later on she worked as a bookkeeper, and an egg grader. It was in Edmonton she met and married Jack Youzwishen and had a second daughter, Donna.
After retirement, Anna and Jack toured extensively in their motor home throughout Canada and the western United States. She enjoyed being an active participant in the daily “coffee group” at Southgate Mall and frequented the South Edmonton Seniors center until well into her nineties.
Anna is survived by her daughter, Donna; four grandchildren, Terry, Catherine, Corey and Tim; and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years Jack; siblings, Michael, Helen, and Alex; as well as her daughter, Irene, of Vancouver, BC.
The immediate family will be holding a private Divine Liturgy Monday, November 9 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Basil’s Ukrainian Catholic Church. The Divine Liturgy will be live-streamed via the www.parkmemorial.com website.
