It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Roy who passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on November 3, 2020 at NorthHumberland Hills Hospital.
Born in Newfoundland, he moved up to Ontario when he was just 16. Roy was a long time employee of General Motors where he happily retired from in 2001. Roy loved his summer get-away at Rice Lake and spent many summers there making wonderful memories.
Loving husband to Kay, devoted father to Kim (Leo), Chris (late), Kevin, Cassandra (Jerry), Rodney (Deb), Jeff (Amanda), Nicole (Les) and a precious Papa to to Zachary, Josh , Sarah, Haylie, Abby, Xavier, Parker, Colton and Felicity and Great-Papa to Palmer. His favourite role in life was being a Papa and he did it so effortlessly.
Roy was a dear son to his parents Maude and Thomas Coates and mother Hazel. Brother to Dave (Marg), Calvin (Sharon), Florence (Pantelis), Florence, and the late George, Lewis, Phillip, Harry, James, Calvin, Mildred, Ada, and Daisy.
He will be fondly remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Special thanks to Dr. Dersnah and staff for the years of dedicated care for Roy and for always going above and beyond. The family would also like to thank the staff at Cobourg Hospital for their care and understanding.
A private family service will be held later this week with a celebration of life to be determined at a later date in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Alzheimer’s Association.
