It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Bill Gillanders on March 11th in Nanaimo BC at the age of 91 years. He is survived by his loving wife Joyce, his sons Keith (Rosemary) & Brian (Eva-Marie), stepdaughter Sherri Thorsen and his brother Richard (Noreen). He is predeceased by his parents, his first wife Beryl and his brothers Ernie and George and sisters Isabell Agar and Eileen Welsh and stepson Lee Thorsen.
Bill was born on a farm near Kinistino, Saskatchewan December 3 1928 and received his schooling there. He attended Saskatoon Teachers College and taught school for 3 years in Saskatchewan and BC. Moving on from teaching, he worked at Imperial Oil in Regina for 3 years and then joined Procor Ltd, where he was employed for 35 years at Regina, Oakville Ontario and Edmonton. He retired in 1987 and he and Joyce moved to Duncan, BC.
Following his retirement, he and Joyce did extensive travelling. Bill enjoyed gardening and spent 10 years as a volunteer at the local Cancer Society. He will be sadly missed by his friends and family.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to may make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.
