Obituary
Alice Averil McCulloch (nee McWatch) – Born Chapleau, ON,1924. Died peacefully on June 7, 2020 at North Bay Regional Health Centre, after a full and satisfying life. Predeceased in 1996 by her beloved husband Wilfred McCulloch (Mac), her loving son Ian (Dr. Laurie Kruk-McCulloch), and her precious brother Danny (age 13 years). She is survived by her children Maralyn (Charles Lacy), Robert (Joy), Bruce (Karen). Treasured grandmother of Colin (Emerald), Darren (Rebecca), Julie (Trevor Schwab), Patrick (Amy), Ryan, Tamara, Sandra (Jay Hargrave), Tim (Penny) Shannon (Jamie Knight). Matthew (Skyler Kiss), Elena, Bobbie-Ann. Survived by great-grandchildren: Isabel, Lienna, Riley, Shea, Grace, Ayla, Riley, Abigale, Olivia, Parker, Hayden, Preston, Leighton, Taylor, Travis, Hunter, Samantha, great-great-grandchildren: Aralia, Brynn. As she once said, “my grandchildren are the spark in my life.”
Survived by her loving sister, Sandra Taylor (Bill Dormer).
Alice was a veteran, having served with the Women’s Army Corps. Her married life and child-rearing occurred on RCAF bases, Comox, Clinton, Falconbridge and North Bay. Some of her community life involved Girl Guides, ACW and Legion Auxiliary. She and Mac enjoyed the outdoors; camping, fishing, travelling, archery and square dancing.
Late in life, Alice embraced her indigenous roots and became a member of the Chapleau Cree, Fox Lake Reserve. A private Indigenous Ceremony is planned with a Celebration of Life to follow in the Fall.
The family gives grateful thanks to Dr. Senior and staff of B3 NBRH, as well as the caring staff of Barclay House Retirement Home.
