Alice J. Sarty (Jewers) passed peacefully at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing home at the age of 92, with her family by her side. Born in Liverpool, N.S., she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Izola (MacAlpine) Smith.
Alice is survived by sister, Rosalyn Smith, Liverpool, N.S.; daughters, Margaret Jewers, Halifax; Elizabeth (Graham) MacLean, Antigonish; sons, Thomas (Julia) Jewers, Aulds Cove; Gary (Heather) Jewers, Aulds Cove; Herbert (Catherine) Jewers, Mulgrave; William Jewers, Frankville; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon Jewers; husband, Henry Sarty; and brother, William Smith.
Alice was an Honorary Elder of Trinity United Church, Mulgrave; Elder of Emmanuel United Church, Beach Meadows; member of the U.C.W., Seaside Seniors Group; and the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed singing in the choir, knitting, reading and keeping a daily journal.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and caregivers at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home.
A private, family visitation will take place on Saturday November 7th, 2020 at Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St., Port Hawkesbury from 11:00am-12:00pm, followed by a private, family burial at 1:00pm at the Trinity United Cemetery, Mulgrave; Rev. Heather Manuel officiating.
Memorial Donations may be made to the Ronald MacDonald House. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St., Port Hawkesbury.
