Obituary
It is with great sadness and sorrow we announce the unexpected passing of Alice. She passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 85. Alice was predeceased by her loving husband Mike, and their daughter Brenda Porter and sister Julia Gulka. She will be sadly missed by her son David Dmytriw (Joanne), her daughter Andrea (Murray) Rieger, son-in-law Ray Porter; grandchildren Brent (Shelley) Holmstrom, Brandy Holmstrom, Nicolette (Kayle) Cooney and Jordan Rieger; her sisters Stella Tulik, Margie Statchuk, June Hesiuk, Jane (Phil) Brezinski, Lenore (Gordon) Lesanko, and brother Larry (Brenda) Pankevich, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Alice was born April 19, 1935 to Harry and Anne Pankevich. She was the third eldest of eight children. Alice grew up in a farming community in the Preeceville area. She loved telling stories of how they all had chores to do. She especially loved reminiscing about the days her mom would air out blankets and she and her sisters would lie on them looking up at the sky, making characters of the clouds above. Alice married Mike Dmytriw in 1954. They moved to Winnipeg in 1956, and then back to Saskatchewan in 1966. After Mike’s retirement in 1994, Alice and Mike enjoyed family time at their Fishing Lake cabin and later making memories in their 5th wheel as they travelled coast to coast throughout Canada and to many U.S. states. Alice’s favorite thing was spending time with family celebrating weddings, reunions, anniversaries, or for any other reason to get together. Alice was an incredible cook with no one leaving her table hungry. After Mike’s passing in 2014, Alice moved to a senior’s home where she enjoyed playing cards, reading and visiting with her neighbors. In respect of the current COVID-19 restrictions, a celebration of Alice’s life will be a small private family ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (#26-1738 Quebec Ave, Saskatoon, SK S7K 1V9). For online condolences and tributes please visit www.mourningglory.ca.
