Obituary for
Alfred Gross
Alfred Gross, 90, of Timmins, ON, passed away on Wednesday, July 29th, 2020 at the cherished home he built himself more than 50 years ago. Alfred was born a twin on March 18, 1930 in Bavaria, Germany and emigrated to Canada as a young man where he learned to speak English while honing his carpentry trade in the Far North. Alfred met his wife of 60 years “Francy” when he moved to Timmins. Alfred was a successful self-employed carpenter/contractor for his entire career. He took up cross-country skiing later in life and it became one of his greatest joys (with the exception of the time he was attacked by an owl on one of the trails). His stories still keep his family laughing. Alfred was always very active and loved badminton, fishing, blueberry picking and being at his cottage. It would be a rare day if Alfred wasn’t “puttering”. Alfred is survived by his wife Frances of Timmins, three daughters, Danica Edmonds (Rob) of Thunder Bay, Christina Kerr (Michael) of Timmins and Lori-Ann Theocharides of Ajax, his 6 grandchildren, Michael (Kristen), Mark, Ryan (Caissy), Aaron, Jessica and Amy, his great granddaughter Elizabeth, his sisters-in-law Pauline Onotsky, Diana McNiven, Linda Scott, Jeannette Onotsky, Lizzi Gross and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sister. Alfred had an appreciation for simplicity therefore there will be no formal service held for his passing, but his family is thankful for the well wishes being sent. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Fund or the Alzheimer’s Society in his name would be welcomed. The funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, Cremation and Reception Centre, 150 Balsam St. S., Timmins.
