Obituary for
Alfred Elmer Cardinal
Born on October 29, 1942, Elmer peacefully passed away on June 17, 2020 at the age of 77 years old. He is survived by siblings, Harvey Cardinal, Roger Cardinal, Robert Cardinal, Les Clarke, Lenny Clarke, Doris Champagne-McKay, Gus Clarke, Johnny Clarke, Tommy Clarke, and Raymond Clarke along with many nieces and nephews.
Missing their dad are his children: Tori (Victor {late}) McArthur, Bryce (Marilyn) Cardinal and their mother Florence Gladue; Keri (Loren) Schulte, Polly (Ryan) Cardinal-Gallerneault, Charlene Nielson and their mother Jenny Cardinal; and Lana Chalifoux. Also missing their grandfather will be Zane, Zolten, Marlena, Brett, Quinton, Jillian, Jordan, Damon, Cordell, Brandon, Courtney, Kristen, James, Isiah, Miriam, Ahmed, Douglas, Kaleb, Kaden, Victoria, Nathasha, Alex, Linden, Jacob, Caleb, Tyson, CJ, Gabriel, Devon, Shanice (late), Darion (late), DeShawn, Shayden, Denzel, Scarlett, Drevyn, Shireena, Waylon, Kade and Gryffin. Elmer loved giving affectionate nicknames for his children and grandchildren and would often offer great excitement when one came into the room. He enjoyed attending their events whenever he could, going to see them at their school or work and taking pictures of it all.
Elmer lived his early years in Fort Vermillion and raised his family in many communities in the Edmonton area and High Level. Elmer lived his later years in Vancouver BC and this was one
of his favourite places to live as he enjoyed the warm weather, early springs and pre-legalizaed dispensaries. In 2017, Elmer returned the Edmonton area to be near his children
and grandchildren. He lived out his days at the Laurel Heights Retirement Home in southeast Edmonton where he made valuable friends who supported him through these last few months of solitude.
A Funeral Service with limited attendance will be held for Elmer on Tuesday, June 30 at 1:00 p.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 – 111 Avenue, Edmonton. This service will be streamed online so those that are unable to attend can still be there. Additionally, a larger memorial will be hosted once the travel restrictions are lifted so that all that all who could not travel this time, can attend.
