Albert Bert Barry 2020

Obituary
BARRY, Albert “Bert” B.
December 1932 – August 2020
It is with great sadness that the family of Bert Barry announces his passing. Bert was born in Weyburn, SK, the youngest of eight and raised in Halbrite and Regina. After early and strong indications that he was born a truck driver, he went on to build a successful trucking business in Saskatoon. He could not have done it without Doreen, his wife of 67 years. His business sense and extraordinary mechanical sense paid off while he optimized and made innovations to his equipment. It was during this period that he lost his ring finger to an accident but after stitches, he went back to work and only missed a few hours. Retirement took him to having another home in Texas where he golfed and enjoyed friends. Summers brought him and Doreen back to Saskatoon where he excelled in woodworking. Growing bored he went back into the trucking business with his family, but this time he was behind the wheel where he was top miler among all the employees week after week. Long hauls from Winnipeg to Vancouver, ice road hauling in Northern Saskatchewan or log hauling in Northern Alberta – he was always up for the challenge. After a heart attack he “slowed down” and built a large beautiful cabin at Wakaw Lake learning more new skills as the build demanded. Family was his “driving” force. He loved all of his eight children, then their spouses and then all of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren with a fervor, which taught us all by example, what it meant to love unconditionally. Bert was a gentle giant and a mountain of a man and will be greatly missed by his wife, Doreen; his children Doug (Bernice) Barry, Melanie (Wes) Woods, Janet (Lowell) Haugen, Laurell (Miles) McMillan, Gordon (Terri) Barry and Toni (Brian) Bentley; grandchildren Greg (Dayla) Barry, Clayton (Heidi) Barry, Kendra (Darrin) Gavey, Curtis (Chaela) Barry, Gunner (Val) Barry, Breanna (Chris) Williams, Jackie (Marc) Collette, Laurae (Jason) Kloschinsky, Trisha (Dean) Anderson, Ashlea (Rob) Farkas, Nadine (Matt) Nichol, Mandy (Mark) Gajadhar, Travis (Jayne) Hutchison, Kirk, Rebecca and Nicole McMillan, Meahgan (Kyle) Dormuth; and his great-grandchildren Mason Barry, Cole, Morgan and Avery Barry, Kyrie and Boone Gavey, Aubrie and Carter Barry, Ella and Archie Barry, Pippa Williams, Gavin and Lea Collette, Rhett and Brady Anderson, Taylor and Tyson Farkas, Rilee and Lexie Nichol, Terran, Hailee and Sara Gajadhar, Kaden, Kyler and Konnor Hutchison. He was predeceased by his daughter Sam, son Russell and his grandchild Dillen. The family wishes to thank Dr. Nayar and the staff at Stonebridge Crossing for their many kindnesses towards Bert and his family. Donations to honour Bert may be made to Columbian Industries in Cudworth, SK or to a charity of your choice. A Private Graveside Service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
