Agneta (Anita) Huber was born in Wola-Wodzinska, Poland to Julius and Hulda Lugowski on September 27, 1919. She was the fourth of five children, the last surviving. She passed away peacefully in Vernon, British Columbia, on February 1, 2020, in her 101st year! Her husband, Herbert, and siblings – Ewald, Arthur, Mary, and Leonard predeceased her. Anita is survived by many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren across Canada, the US, and in Europe.
Anita was an adventurer, a prudent risk taker, and disciplined entrepreneur. She embraced the new world she was thrust into in the United States after the war. She then moved to Ontario, subsequently pushing westward where she uncovered the magnificent beauty of the Rockies, the Pacific Ocean and the Okanagan valley. The impact of these moves left an indelible impression on her “children” who frequently visited her and Herbie.
Anita was a gentle woman, talented, wise, and most of all always bubbling over with compliments, gifts, and selfless, cheerful generosity. She loved deeply and with compassion. When times were dark and dire, Anita found the words to deliver a solution, calm, respect, and dignity for all. She always found the good in people, always a remedy to heal, console, and repair. Anger was not in her vocabulary. She was a peacemaker, and crafty negotiator. Her way was disarming. It brought people together; it brought solutions, happiness, and prosperity.
Anita was a loving wife and played the role of mother to her many nieces and nephews, and we all loved her too! We so appreciated her kindness, generosity and congeniality.
Anita had a strong faith in God, which she held very privately, not expressed in traditional ways. Yet this faith was the foundation for how she lived her life and the cornerstone of who she was.
We celebrate Anita, because of who she was, what she taught us, and that forever she watches over us from a place of tranquility, peace, and love.
A celebration of Anita’s life will be held at Canterbury Court, main floor lounge, Vernon, BC on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at 2p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Agneta Huber February 1st 2020..
