James Mark Cameron (Jim) passed away peacefully on April 3, 2020, with Marilyn at his side, in Banfield Pavilion due to complications from dementia.
Jim is survived by Marilyn, his beloved wife of 60 years, his five children, Mark, Gail, Bernard, Lynn, Maureen, their spouses, and his grandchildren Sam and Olivia; Erik, Louis and Anna; Katie and Chiara; Cameron and Garrett. He is also survived by his siblings, Edith Hobson, Joyce Grandison and Bob Cameron.
Jim was born and raised in Trail, BC. He attended Notre Dame in Nelson and from there, finished his studies at UBC in Vancouver. It was at UBC and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish that he met Marilyn. Jim and Marilyn lived most of their married life in Vancouver, raising 5 children in their home on West 13th.
Jim’s faith was his foundation. He never looked up in envy but rather looked back in empathy; he believed privilege should be appreciated and that good fortune was to be shared. He believed in always trying his best and that hard work and education were the keys to success. He actively worked at being a good citizen, building community both spiritually and physically. Friends say his “legacy of devotion, kindness, and strength will always be a source of inspiration.”
After his early retirement from a career at BC Tel, Jim taught marketing at BCIT and successfully ran his own consulting business.
A joy for Jim was to spend his summer holidays in the BC Interior visiting Trail and the Okanagan. Jim loved the summer sunshine and heat. In their retirement, Jim and Marilyn bought a summer house in Oliver, a place to relax, swim, play golf and enjoy family and friends. Jim and Marilyn also enjoyed traveling and visited different cultures as well as tracing family connections in Scotland and Ireland.
Jim worked hard, cared deeply, and was loved widely. His genuine smile, generosity of spirit and wacky sense of humour will be much missed.
A special thank you to Dr. G. Edwards, Dr. Gosselin, Sharon Thomas and the nurses and care aids at Banfield Pavilion.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant House or a charity of your choice.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of James Mark Cameron April 12th 1936 April 3rd 2020..
