MacLeod (Clarke), Mary Ruth – On Monday March 30, 2020, surrounded by the caring staff of Garden Rd, Cedarstone , and the love of family and friends (distanced by COVID19), Mary slipped away peacefully. She was just shy of her 90th birthday!
She was born on the homestead farm near Didsbury Alberta to John and Annie Clarke. They returned to Nova Scotia where Mary grew up at Maple Villa Farm, Beaver Brook. She often recalled fondly her farm, family and school memories, in particular her trip to the Royal Winter Fair with the Dept. of Agriculture Boys and Girls clubs (now 4-H) in 1946. Mary was a homemaker and bookkeeper. She was involved with and volunteered for many organizations and causes while living in Calgary, Grimsby and Truro. During her life and at the end, music freed Mary from sorrows and struggles.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Heather, Vicki and Peter and their families, her sister in law Darla, her brothers in law Bernie and Louis, many nieces, nephews, cousins by the dozens and her long time friend Marylou Charles. She was predeceased by her husband Ron, brother Sonny (Graham), sisters Joan and Margaret.
As per Mary’s wishes and due to her diagnosis of Parkinson’s, her brain has been donated to The Maritime Brain Tissue Bank. Special thanks to those who made this happen at a difficult time, Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Jamie (D&D removal) and Dr. Jason Jollimore (pathology @CEHHC). Much appreciation for all the care Mom received at Johnson Manor and Cedarstone Enhanced Care. A special thank you to Jim and Glenda Kent and their family.
A Memorial Service will be decided at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations to: HA Johnson Tenant Association, Old Barns Cemetery Corporation, Old Barns United Church, St Andrews United Church or wherever you wish.
