Memorial Donation
Our hearts were shattered on March the 29th as we said goodbye to Kevin Gerard Dalton at age 58. Kevin passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his parents Bill and Regina (Rossiter) Dalton, brother Wayne Dalton, mother-in-law Margaret Follett and brother-in-law Eddie Hackett.
Leaving to mourn with broken hearts, his pillars of strength, his devoted wife of 28 years Arlene (Follett), his loving son Kyle, his brothers Perry (Wanda), Raymond (Anne), Neil (Lesa), his sisters Brenda Hackett, Michelle Jones (Darrell), Godmother Aunt Anne Zamolo, father-in-law John Follett, sisters-in-law Colleen Dalton (Albert), Charmaine Hookey (Chris), brothers-in-law Terry Follett (Anne) and Jim Follett, as well as all of his cousins, nieces and nephews and especially his five Godchildren. Also left to mourn is special friend Albert Lawlor and a large circle of family and friends. Kevin shared a truly special bond with his nephew Nicholas Dalton (Wayne’s son). This bond will never be broken, not even through death.
Kevin began his career with the Canadian Coast Guard. He loved his time at sea and often spoke fondly of it over the years. While still working with the Coast Guard he made his first investment in business in his hometown of Cape Broyle. Over the years his business interests grew to include a number of private investments, ESSO and Ultramar service stations, a Foodtown grocery store, and a Home Hardware Building Centre which his bother Neil later acquired. One of the highlights of Kevin’s business ventures was Dalton’s Casket Manufacturing which he started in 1991 and is still operating in Cape Broyle.
Kevin touched the lives of many people over the years. Everyone knew Kevin was a very hard worker and that he also had a big heart. He was always busy – a man in constant motion – but never too busy to share his love of life with those around him. He was always there for his family and was very supportive of his community and all of the Southern Shore.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in caring for Kevin over the past year. To Unit 4 West and the ICU at St. Clare’s for your care and compassion, the Dr. Leonard A. Miller Centre, NL Balance and Dizziness, SLP Private Practice, Bruce Halleran and the Health Sciences Centre, we sincerely thank you. A very special thank you to Mavis, Kevin’s homecare worker from TLC, who cared for Kevin for the past six months. We are forever grateful for your kindness, compassion and professionalism.
All of Kevin’s brothers, sisters and in-laws played a large role in Kevin’s wellbeing over the past year. Never has the importance of family been more evident than it has been during this time. A special thank-you to his sister Brenda. She worked at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital for 35 years, and every day that she was available she spent by Kevin’s side. Brenda laughed with us, cried with us, encouraged us, cooked meals, gave medical advice and helped in every way humanly possible to get us through these last 13 months. Brenda, your love and support will never be forgotten.
Cremation has already taken place. A celebration of Kevin’s life will take place at a date to be announced later. Donations in Kevin’s memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
We frown because you are gone,
but we smile because you have lived.
