Obituary of Madlyn Claire Moir
With profound sadness, the family of Claire Moir announce her passing after a long period of failing health. Claire was born in Saint John to George H. and Kathleen M. Chambers. She spent her childhood in the “old” North End, and her summers at the family cottage at Ragged Point. She attended local schools and graduated from Saint John High School in 1948. She then enrolled in the Saint John School of Nursing at the General Hospital. In 1952 she married her husband of 60 years, Dr. J. David Moir.
Claire was an avid curler and golfer and belonged to both the Riverside Country Club and the Hampton Golf Club. She was a member of St. David’s United Church in Rothesay. Claire loved music and she sang in various choirs in Saint John and at her winter home in Florida. She also participated in several musical variety shows, with her husband David, for the SJHS Alumni Association.
Claire was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Russell and Harry; husband, David; and son, Robert. She is survived by her sister, Donna Mahar (Bud) of Kanata, ON; sister-in-law, Margaret Grant of Shannex Quispamsis; son, John (Suzanne) of Rothesay; and daughters Barbara Sullivan and Krista Rose (Paul) of British Columbia. Claire had seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). A memorial service for Claire will be held at a later date, followed by a private family interment. For those who wish, a remembrance to Bobby’s Hospice, Romero House, or a charity of the donor’s choice would be greatly appreciated. Please place online condolences and remembrances at www.BrenansFH.com.
