Evelyn M. Ginson
1922-2020
Evelyn Margaret Ginson of Windsor Court, Fredericton New Brunswick
passed away on March 14th, 2020. Born in Simonds , Carleton County on
August 12, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Henry Ward Ginson
and Ada Rose ( Olden) Ginson.
Evelyn is survived by her sister Edith Thorburn of McAdam and many
nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Robert Ginson
and sisters Dorothy Chase, Ruth Breneol, Kathleen Stephen and niece
Elaine (Chase) Ryan.
Evelyn was born at the family farm and carried fond memories of early
childhood her entire life and was always eager to share stories of
life on the farm and working with her grandfather, Charles Henry
Ginson. Evelyn’s life long love of animals was a direct result
of her childhood days on the farm . Evelyn spent many years as a
teacher in the Carleton County area and then in 1968, moved to
Oromocto where she continued her passion of education and many a
student in later years gave praise to Evelyn for the time she was
their teacher. Evelyn’s teaching career spanned 42 years from
1941 to 1983 and perhaps one of her best known students , Premier
Richard B. Hatfield, commented at her retirement party –
“There are some teachers you do not remember that well, some
teachers you remember a little and some you remember always and Miss
Ginson is one of these. She taught with a courteous firmness.
Maintained a high standard in everything she did. Made an impression
on all her colleagues and the people in the community where she
lived”.
Evelyn was a devout member of the Hartland United Baptist Church
during her time in Hartland and continued that devotion while a member
of the Brunswick Street Baptist Church in Fredericton. Evelyn actively
supported the Canadian Baptist Mission and participated throughout the
years on various Canadian Baptist Mission trips including Kenya.
Evelyn enjoyed entertaining family and friends whether at her home in
Oromocto or her cottage at the lake and everyone was always greeted by
Evelyn’s smile and positive attitude to life.
A funeral service for Evelyn will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday,
August 21, 2020 at the Brunswick Street Baptist Church in Fredericton.
Due to COVID restrictions, you must pre-register in order to attend
the service. This can be done by contacting the church at 506-458-8348
or by email at BSBC@BSBC.nb.ca. The burial will take place following
the service at 4:00 p.m. at the Greenwood Cemetery in Hartland. It is
not necessary to pre-register in order to attend the burial service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donors
choice.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to the staff of
Windsor Court for the loving care given to Evelyn while she was a
resident there and also a special thank you to Dr. Peter Fraser who
provided
exemplary medical care to Evelyn over the years.

  1. Evelyn Ginson was not only a skilled teacher of mathematics, but an exemplary colleague, and a lovely lady. Her Oromocto High School family will miss her professionalism, and her kind and giving friendship very much.
