1937-2020
Raymond Daniel Christensen, 82, passed away on March 9th,
2020 surrounded by his family.
He was born in Sydney, NS to the late Daniel and Asta
(Eilerson) Christensen on July 29, 1937. Growing up in
Abercrombie, NS, he graduated from NGHS and then studied
carpentry at Halifax County Vocational. He began his 55 years
in construction with Fraser, Mason and Fraser and retired
with Higgins Construction in 2013.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia (Smith);
son, Danny, Belleville, ON; daughter, Darlene Jones, Saint
John, NB; and son-in-law, Ross Murray, London, ON; seven
grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Karla
(Doug) Burgess; Anita (Harvey) Bishop; Ellen (Ross) Huggard;
brothers, Verner and Einar “Sonny” (Barbara);
numerous friends who shared his love of music and
dancing.
He was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Dorothy Murray;
sisters, Jessie (Bernie) Syverston; and Asta (Gordon)
Velders.
The family will receive visitors Wednesday, March 18th from
2-4 and 7-9 pm at R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave.,
New Glasgow. Funeral mass will be Thursday, March 19th at 11am
from St. John the Baptist Church, New Glasgow, with Rev Tom
MacNeil presiding. Burial will be in the summer in the
Abercrombie Cemetery.
Special thanks to the Cancer Centre, the Palliative Care Unit
at the Aberdeen Hospital and QEII Health Centre. Donations
may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society,
Abercrombie Cemetery or a charity of your
choice.
