It is with great sadness that the Armstrong family announces the passing of their dear Jim Carswell on March 5, 2020 at the age of 86. Pre-deceased by his parents Pauline and Roy Carswell, brother to Betty’Don, brother-in-law to Blair Armstrong, Uncle Jim to Eric Armstrong, Laura Armstrong and pre-deceased by Deanna Armstrong, Great Uncle to two great nieces and five great nephews. Jim was born and grew up in Ottawa. Jim’s passions as a child and teenager were swimming, diving, reading, piano and gymnastics. He was on the Glebe Collegiate gymnastics and swim teams throughout his high school years. He chose a career with the Canadian National Railway. Jim worked for the CNR in Ottawa and later transferred to Jasper, Alberta where he worked until his retirement. He settled near the hamlet of Brudenell close to Killaloe, Wilno and Barry’s Bay, Ontario. In 2017, he lived at the Valley Manor Nursing home in Barry’s Bay until his death. Jim will be remembered for his warm smile, his friendly nature and his good sense of humour. He will be dearly missed by his family. The Armstrong family wishes to thank the caring staff at Valley Manor.
