Janice Armsworthy
December 16, 1933 – March 04, 2020
On March 4 Janice Armsworthy (Nickie), age 86, of Dartmouth, NS passed peacefully into the arms of God. In her last days she was lovingly cared for by the nurses of the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born on December 16, 1933 in New Glasgow NS, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Ethel (Leadbetter) Shanahan.
Nickie was dearly loved by her husband of 64 years, Carl Armsworthy and her daughters: Carla, Karen (Sal), sons: Doug (Sonya), Greg (Pamela), Dean (Michelle), sisters: Betty Campbell, Esther Thompson, Brenda (Gary) White, granddaughter: Megan Armsworthy.
She was predeceased by her grandson, Josh Armsworthy, sister Lee Russell and brothers Bernie, Jackie, Herman and Ronnie.
Nickie’s heart was filled with love and generosity. She loved to laugh, cherished children and left behind many adoring friends. She had a special place in her heart for her two grandchildren, Megan and Josh. Nickie dedicated her life to raising and caring for children. After raising five children of her own, she went on to care for the children of others, and became known as Nan, Nano, Nannie and Mrs. A. At the age of 67, once these children had grown, she became a school monitor where she delighted in her relationships with so many of the children. She loved to share stories and laugh about her encounters with them. At 84, Nickie reluctantly retired from being a school monitor.
Along with caring for children, she loved to bake and is fondly remembered for her cookies, squares, homemade bread and care packages. Her mustard pickles and beets were a favorite of many and she always made sure she had enough for everyone. Her heart was open, kind, loving and generous. Nickie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will live on in the hearts of many.
A celebration of her life will be held at Woodlawn United Church in Dartmouth on Thursday, March 12 at 10am. In Nickie’s memory and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the IWK Children’s Hospital.
On-line condolences may be made at: www.dartmouthfuneralhome.ca.
