Obituary
Mom was born July 12, 1925 to Frances and Clarence Jensen in the town of Cardston, AB and passed away February 28, 2020. She was the second oldest of five children. In 1949 she met and married Peter Morrison and together they raised 7 children, 2 boys and 5 girls. Mom and Dad moved around Alberta a lot in their early years while dad worked on a seismic crew. They were good years however, and many stories came from those years about different places they lived, the accommodations they lived in and the people they met. As the years went on Dad accepted employment with BA Oil and Gas which later became Gulf Canada and worked at the gas plant between Pincher Creek and Waterton Lakes National Park.
Mom loved Pincher Creek, she loved being able to look out the window and see the mountains, she loved the house that they built, mostly however, she loved raising her children and being such a strong supporter of anything and everything they did. She taught us strong morals, she gave us high standards to live by, she taught us to respect ourselves and others, she always reminded us to be good to one another. At times her lessons fell on deaf ears but we all knew who we were accountable to, she was a good mother who loved her children unconditionally!
The Pincher Creek years were very good but as the saying goes all good things come to an end!! Dad got word that he was going to be transferred to the Rimbey gas plant, so he convinced mom to move by telling her” the wind doesn’t blow up there!!!”
Mom eventually called Ponoka home, she got involved in curling joined a few clubs and made some friends. As the family grew and began to leave home she needed another challenge so she studied and got her real estate license! This was quite a feat at the age of 57. She worked with the team of Going Real Estate and eventually purchased their Ponoka office.
Mom and Dad did a lot of travelling with the different positions that dad held with the Legion enabling them to visit and see most of Canada. After retiring they purchased a home in Arizona and spent most of the winters enjoying golf and a warmer climate. They always insisted on being home for Christmas though to give the kids the opportunity to come home as well.
As us kids grew and started families of our own mom was thrilled to see the grandchildren and always wanted to be a part of their lives. She had a special drawer in the kitchen filled with toys that the kids knew they were always allowed to empty!! Then the great grandchildren!!!! When Rob and Sarah were expecting their first child and someone wanted mom to go on a trip she was very adamant that she wasn’t going anywhere until SHE got this baby!! It was very heart warming to see the joy in her eyes and the smile on her face when these little ones came to visit.
Mom loved to drive and actually held a valid drivers license until her 92 birthday!! She was very proud of the fact she had never gotten a traffic ticket or even been pulled over by the “cops”. Mom had a hard time losing that independence and relying on others for rides.
There really was never a dull moment as she wouldn’t acknowledge that she was old or getting old and in her mind she was very capable of doing most anything, she just needed her body to co-operate.
Mom was lucky enough to remain living in her own home of which she was so grateful. She loved her yard, her flowers and the warm sun where she could sit out and enjoy her coffee and read the paper, possibly even have a nap, she loved her independence. She had a good long life and was fortunate to be healthy enough to enjoy it.
