Obituary of Kathy Glasser McDermid
Kathryn Ann Glasser McDermid, 66, of Wellesley, Ontario, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2020, at home with the comfort and care of her family.
Kathy was born and raised in Baden, to Harold and Reta Glasser on May 22nd1954. She went to high school at Waterloo Oxford D.S.S. where she was an active member of the Glee Club and graduated in 1973. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Wilfred Laurier University. She enjoyed a 35-year career with March of Dimes Canada, where her most recent position was Associate Director of Accessibility Services and retired in 2016. In retirement, she took up painting and became an accomplished fluid art painter. Earlier in her career she volunteered as a Big Sister and in her retirement, as an organizing volunteer for the Wellesley Idol competition.
Kathy and her husband Jamie were married in 1992 and established their home in Wellesley, Ontario. They have two daughters, Kira aged 26 and Ali aged 24. They were thrilled to welcome Kira’s husband, Eric Wigboldus, into the family in 2018. Kathy is also survived by her sister Karen and Brian Steinman, their children: Jessica (Kevin and their children Logan, Mason, and Natalie), Jalyssa (Ryan), and Jake (Kelly), as well as sister Kim and Ron Hall and their children: Lauren and Dylan. Also survived by sister in law Judy and Doug Coish and children: Becky (Stephan) and Shelly, and sister in law Joan McDermid.
Over the past 8 months, Kathy received outstanding care from dozens of health care professionals from both Grand River Hospital in Kitchener, and Victoria Hospital in London. At home, she received excellent and compassionate care from Donna. Bernadette, and their teammates at Care Partners. To all our friends and family who visited, called, wrote letters, and supported us, we are deeply grateful. You helped make Kathy’s last few months memorable and enjoyable.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Kathy with her family during a memorial visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 1123 Henry St., Wellesley on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 1 p.m., with Rev. Dave Hammer officiating.
