Richard Scott Mackie February 1945 February 2020

We are saddened to advise that Rick passed away suddenly at home. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Leona Mackie and his brother, Jim. He is survived by his loving wife, Tonie, sisters Lynda Mackie (Pearl) and Debbie Mackie (Hank Frank and Nick Frank) and sister-in-law Terry Mackie (Heather, James and Jennifer and their spouses and children) as well as extended family and friends. Rick was a graduate of Simon Fraser University and worked primarily in accounting and human resources.
Rick was a multifaceted guy with many interests. Words that come to mind describing him are:
Car guy – from an early age Rick loved cars, owning them, restoring them and driving them. He was a long-term member of the Greater Vancouver Mustang Association, where he served as treasurer for many years.
Outdoorsman – Rick loved hunting, fishing and camping, especially with his brother Jim and his father.
Traveller – Rick travelled often to sunny locations including Hawaii, Mexico and Cuba and took several cruises in the Caribbean, Panama Canal, to Hawaii and to Alaska.
Gardener – Rick had a green thumb from an early age. In his teens he dug up enough fir trees to build a long hedge along the property line. He had wonderful flower gardens and vegetable gardens.
Dog lover – Especially to Thor. He loved dogs and even bred them for a time.
There will be a Celebration of Rick’s Life on Friday, February 28th at 3:00pm at Unity of Vancouver at 5840 Oak Street, Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rocky Point Bird Organization (170-1581H Hillside Avenue, Victoria, BC V8T 2C1)
