Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Fraser
1935-2020
Elizabeth Bernice “Betty” Fraser, aged 84,
passed away peacefully on February 17, 2020, at her home, Gables
Lodge, Amherst, surrounded by her family and her beloved
staff/caregivers.
Betty was born Sept. 16, 1935 in Thorburn, Nova Scotia to
John and Christine (MacDonald) Campbell. She later married the love of
her life, Douglas Fraser, and they build a beautiful life together,
living all over Nova Scotia – Truro, Yarmouth, Amherst, Dartmouth and
New Glasgow, where they made memories, raised their children and made
life-long friends.
Betty is survived by daughter, Nancy (Roddy) Letcher of
Amherst; son, Brad (Leah Wright) Fraser of Halifax; grandchildren,
Lauren and Abbey; companion, Thomas Henwood; a brother, Jack
(Marjorie) Campbell; brother-in-law, Jerry Rogers; sister-in-law,
Joyce Campbell; special nieces and nephews, and great nieces and
nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by 4
sisters: Ina, Ruth, Mary and Margaret, and 3 brothers: Fred, Gordon
and Archie.
After Doug’s death in 2002, Betty was lucky enough
to fall in love again with her amazing companion, Thomas Henwood.
These two enjoyed love, laughter, cottage time at Black Point and many
shopping trips to Bangor. Tommy has been Betty’s most loyal
caregiver. His kindness and devotion to Betty will never be forgotten.
We love you Tommy!
Betty was full of love, laughter, fun and strength. She
enjoyed many jobs and activities throughout her life. Her most
cherished role was being “Nanny Betts” to Lauren and
Abbey and being a caregiver to great niece and nephew, Kelsey and
Logan Boudreau.
Betty always looked forward to the Black Point days, her
favourite place. Her cottage walking buddies, Janet and Susan
(nieces), were always there for a great laugh, fun and
stories.
Betty was a member of Trinity St. Stephen’s United
Church in Amherst and a former member of First Presbyterian Church in
New Glasgow. A very special thanks goes out to the professional and
loving staff at Gables Lodge. You loved our mother like she was your
own, and for that we are forever grateful.

Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow, from where service will be
held at 2 pm Friday, Feb. 21, with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating.
